Best Workouts Since Covid-19

As we all know, COVID-19 has changed our lives entirely. Considering the fact that we have all had much more time on our hands since we were put into lockdown, our fitness lives have changed too!! Here are the 10 best workouts that have come out of the tumultuous time of COVID-19!

1. HIIT Workouts

HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training! These kinds of workouts are generally made up of exercises that are intense and increase your heart rate and are then followed by exercises that are lower intensity and decrease your heart rate. These workouts are great for burning a large number of calories in a short amount of time, increasing muscle mass and losing fat!

Some great YouTubers that have released programs and videos that you can follow from home are:

2. Yoga Workouts

Yoga workouts are fantastic for a multitude of reasons!! They are relatively low intensity, increase muscle mass, flexibility, energy levels – and they can be done from anywhere!! Yoga workouts also range in intensity from beginners to advanced, so they’re amazing if you’re embarking on, or restarting your fitness journey!! There are also so many classes online workouts you can find and hopefully a few socially distanced ones in the near future!

My personal favorite would have to be Yoga with Adriene (https://www.youtube.com/user/yogawithadriene)! She has videos for beginners, intermediates, as well as advanced Yogis!

3. Pilates

Pilates is very similar to Yoga, but it is more intense!! The main difference is that Pilates focuses on body control and core strength whereas Yoga focuses mainly on broad muscle groups. Since Coronavirus, lots of trendy YouTubers have released Pilates routines you can follow in order to improve your fitness from home!

Some of my go-to YouTubers are:

4. Dance Aerobics Workout

Dance Workouts are on the up and coming thanks to Coronavirus!! They are quite similar to HIIT Workouts in that they get your heartbeat pounding and get you moving to a beat! They’re really fun and most of the time it doesn’t even feel like you’re doing a workout! They focus on using athletic moves but use the beat of the song to make them more fluid than a HIIT workout!

Some of my go-to YouTubers are:

5. Running

As we all know, people have been running for years! But since the beginning of Corona Virus, people have taken to running more and more! It’s a great way to build muscle mass, lose fat, help build strong bones and improve cardiovascular fitness!

Running has also been a great way for people to keep their mental health in check over the course of quarantine – getting out of the house for an hour and connecting with nature and breathing in fresh air has stopped many people from going stir crazy!

6. Biking

Just like running, biking has been around for years! It’s a way for you to get out of your house and feel the wind on your face. It’s a great way to get your heart rate pumping and for you to get a good workout in and get out of your house for a while!

7. Bootcamps

Bootcamps – though they’re now socially distanced – are a great way to make new friends, get outdoors and also get fit! They’re generally comprised of an instructor and a group of people that show up and follow along! A quick google search will give you bootcamps close to you that you can show up for, pay a small fee, and get exercising!

8. Zumba

Though you might think Zumba and Dance Aerobic workouts are practically the same thing – they’re not! Zumba is more like actual dancing than dance aerobic workouts are, because it focuses more on dance moves than on putting athletic movements to a beat! It gets your heartbeat pumping, the oxygen flowing, and Zumba is also really fun!!

My favorite youtuber is:

9. Virtual Fitness

Over the course of quarantine, we all seem to have discovered some sort of virtual fitness!! There are so many free apps out there that you can access that will provide you with the tools to get an effective workout in without the need for a gym!!

Some of my all-time favorites are:

  •  WorkoutWomen
  •  BBG Fit
  • Shreddy

These apps give you workouts and guide you through them – you can do them from your back garden or your bedroom!! You mostly just need a yoga mat to get started!

10. Walking

As we all know a daily walk has become a huge thing since coronavirus – especially for those of us in countries where that was the only time you were allowed out of your house each day!! If you aren’t really into very high intensity workouts like running or HIIT workouts, getting out of the house and walking at a brisk pace for a prolonged period of time can actually burn just as many calories as going for a run!! So, if you want to make your daily walk a workout, do!
