How to Care for Your Hair and Skin this Holiday Season

With the holidays just around the corner and the festivities already well under way, many of us have probably already started indulging in behaviours that aren’t so great for our skin!

From a never ending supply of sweets, chocolates, and meals, through to late nights, extra stress, not to mention cold weather, this can be a particularly tough time for our hair and skin.

Here’s our guide to caring for your hair and skin this holiday season

Alcohol

When it comes to alcohol, the best approach really is to avoid it. However, even with the best of intentions, this isn’t always possible during the festive period. And it’s never advisable to miss out on the things you like!

Aside from the nasty hangover, alcohol can also have a negative impact on your skin as it is incredibly dehydrating. Not only this but, under the influence of alcohol, it can be easy to forget to carry out your usual skincare regime, meaning you might go to bed with a full face of make up on.

To minimise the negative effects of alcohol on your skin this Christmas, it’s best to follow the rule that, the clearer the alcohol the better. So, for example, tipples such as Vodka, Gin, and Tequila will process through your system faster than other, darker drinks.

Stay hydrated

When you’re super busy, it can be difficult to remember to drink enough water. But staying well hydrated is vital if you want to look after your hair and skin during the hectic Christmas period. So make sure you remember to drink water throughout the day and, if you’re indulging a few festive tipples, make sure you drink plenty of water before you go to bed and again the next day to reduce the impact on your skin.

Heat is harmful!

When it comes to your hair, you’ll probably spend a lot more time curling, straightening, and styling over the festive period. This is sure to make you look and feel great, but it’s important to remember that heat can be harmful to your hair.

Heated styling tools can be damaging to your hair all year round, but during the cold winter months, your hair is likely to dry out quicker than usual. So make sure you use heat protection sprays and products with extra moisture to protect your hair during the festive season.

Supplements

Because you might struggle to get all of the nutrients and vitamins your hair and skin need during the holiday season, now is a great time to start taking skin, hair, and nail supplements. These will help to give your hair and skin a healthy boost!

Take time to relax

The holiday season is always a busy time, with so much to do and seemingly so little time to do it in. This level of stress can lead to skin problems and even hair loss. So, however busy you are, make sure you take some time out to relax and unwind. Try 10 minutes slow breathing, a good soak in the bath, or even some yoga!
