Which Diet is Best for Hair Growth?

Hair loss and hair thinning are more common than you might think, with more people than ever before suffering from hair growth concerns.

Even though there are a whole host of products that can be used to promote active hair growth, reduce hair thinning, and allow you to achieve a healthy, happy and strong head of hair, your diet, in particular a protein and nutrient rich intake remains key.

If you are anything like me, you are forever trying to lose those last couple of kilos that age just seems to want you to hold on to. Even though I always try to eat a ‘clean’, low fructose, anti-inflammatory diet, I can’t help but be intrigued by all the different diets that are out here.

Here is a helpful guide outlining some of the protein and nutrient rich diets that are best for hair growth.

Keto

The Keto diet is a ‘hair friendly,’ low carb, high fat and moderate protein diet, which has been designed to put the body into a metabolic state known as ketosis.

As part of this popular diet, you will be able to enjoy a wide range of foods including natural fats such as fish and seafood , butter and olive oil, meat, eggs, cheese, and vegetables that grow above the ground. On this diet you will consume a very limited amount of carbs, the emphasis being on proteins and fats.

Vegan

Practising a Vegan diet has also been linked to healthy hair growth.

But what does a Vegan diet consist of? A Vegan diet involves eating only plant-based foods such as vegetables, grains, nuts and fruits, as well as foods made from plants.

This means avoiding all foods that come from animals, including dairy products and eggs. And, although you need protein for hair to grow, vegetables and fruits also have huge amounts of nutrients needed to strengthen and grow hair, which you’ll be consuming in abundance.

Many people worry about hair growth when they embark on a vegan diet. Rest assured, there are several plant based, delicious high protein vegan foods. Yes, hair needs protein to grow, but it also needs lots of vitamins and minerals. Fresh vegetables and fruits have huge amounts of nutrients needed to strengthen and grow hair.

Paleo

The Paleo diet has been proven to help optimise the strength, thickness, and shine of your hair due to the overall nutrient density of a Paleo diet.

This is because of the high levels of nutrients such as zinc, biotin, and iron that you will now be consuming as part of this diet. Described as a ‘lifestyle’ diet, Paleolithic diets are all about eating like our ancestors did and consuming an abundance of fruit and veg, as well as other wholefoods like nuts and seeds.

Personally I find a paleo-based diet very easy to follow, digestion is easy and energy levels high.
